What’s it like working at LCF Law in 2024?

LCF Law Solicitors | Sunday Times Best places to work 2023

One year on from being named one of the UK’s best places to work  by the Sunday Times, we share why our colleagues love working at LCF Law and how we're supporting our workforce as the firm continues to grow.

Results from the survey

The prestigious Sunday Times guide anonymously surveys the opinions of employees from hundreds of businesses operating in every industry sector across the UK. 87% of our colleagues completed the survey, which measures employee experience against six key drivers. We gained an ‘excellent’ rating in all areas, scoring between 15% and 18% higher than average.

You can read a detailed breakdown of our scores against each of the drivers and find out why our colleagues scored us so highly by clicking on the links below.

What’s new in 2024?

Turnover tops £10m

In May we reported a successful financial year, with turnover hitting £10.1 million on the back of double-digit growth over the past 12 months. This growth is testament to our strategy to employ the best people, provide a superb service at the right price, improve efficiency and productivity, and continually invest in our team so they can achieve their full potential.

These latest results will act as a springboard for further growth, with several recent high-profile partner appointments and further recruitment planned over the coming months.

Simon Stell and Ragan Montgomery | LCF LawNew managing partner appointed

In April we appointed new managing partner Ragan Montgomery, head of the firm's Dispute Resolution department who has been with the firm for 21 years. She succeeded Simon Stell, who led LCF Law for almost 30 years and oversaw its growth into one of the region's most recognised and successful law firms.

Colleagues score highly in wellbeing survey

In January we conducted an employee wellbeing survey. A high proportion of colleagues:

  • Reported good or very good health (73%)
  • Agreed or strongly agreed that they are happy and feel safe in their working environment (78%)
  • Agreed or strongly agreed that they believe the firm cares about their wellbeing (72%)

New wellbeing initiatives announced

In recognition of our inclusion in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work, wellbeing hours have been doubled to 14 for the year. This paid leave can be used for medical appointments, alternative therapies and self-care - anything that makes a positive difference to colleagues' health and wellbeing.

New initiatives for 2024 will include exercise classes and health screenings, and we’ve provided all colleagues with access to the YuLife employee benefits app, which rewards simple activities like walking and provides 24/7 virtual GP support.

Working at LCF Law

We understand how important a firm’s culture and employee engagement are for its long-term success. We aim to foster an environment where colleagues feel recognised and valued – one that they are proud to be a part of. You can find out more about working at LCF Law in our careers brochure.

Career progression

Training staff at LCF LawWe aim to meet colleagues’ aspirations for personal growth and support them in their career development and maximising their potential, whether members of our legal teams or support staff.

We have many long serving colleagues who have progressed from junior lawyer to solicitor to partner, and we regularly have the pleasure of celebrating colleagues’ promotions and long service.

We have supported many colleagues to gain specialist qualifications and accreditations with leading professional bodies.

Work-life balance

We value hard work and commitment but also recognise everyone has a life away from the office. Happy people are better lawyers and support staff. Colleagues who feel respected and appreciated better support their colleagues and our customers.

Regular and open communication with our colleagues nurtures their development, wellbeing and sense of belonging, embeds our company culture and engages them in our core values.

We’re recruiting!

We have strongly embedded, positive values and robust systems in place to support our workforce. The firm has a family-like atmosphere that is quite unlike other law firms. Colleagues feel happy and fulfilled in their roles, resulting in high performance and retention - benefits that are passed on to the client.

The success of our colleagues is supporting LCF Law’s ambitious growth plans as we win more work and recruit more staff and our reputation as a firm and employer goes from strength to strength, both regionally and nationally. This growth is allowing the firm to expand into new areas of work to support our clients in an ever-changing legal environment.

We have a number of positions available across our departments and offices, from solicitor training contracts to partner roles. So if you're looking for an employer that supports all colleagues to reach their potential whilst supporting a genuine work-life balance, check out our careers pages.

We look forward to welcoming more dynamic people to LCF Law throughout 2024 and beyond as we continue with our ambitious growth plans.
