Hours: 9.00 am – 5.30 pm, 5 days a week.
LCF Law are looking for a talented and ambitious Associate Solicitor to join our Commercial Disputes team in Leeds. We are looking for 5-8 years post-qualification experience in handling complex commercial disputes, with a proven track record as a strong fee-earner capable of managing high-value matters independently. You'll play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the department, contributing to planning and implementation while promoting the firm's image and ethos. We're looking for someone who actively seeks opportunities to drive the firm's continuing evolution and development, bringing fresh ideas and commercial insight to the team. You'll advise and supervise team members, taking on delegated areas of responsibility and contributing to staff training and your own professional development. You'll also undertake specified management responsibilities as the department grows. A thorough understanding of professional conduct requirements as regulated by the SRA, along with excellent advocacy, negotiation skills, and a strong commercial mindset, is essential for this role.
Main areas of responsibility:

Administrative Duties:
- To encourage and promote the image and ethos of the firm.
- To take an active part in networking, marketing, and attending client events and gatherings of professionals; to market the firm’s client services.
- To assist in the development of new products and service opportunities.
- To actively seek ways to contribute to the continuing evolution and development of the firm.
- To have special regard for the needs and interests of any member of staff within an area of responsibility delegated to an associate.
- To advise and supervise any member of staff and especially within an area of responsibility delegated to an associate.
- To contribute towards training both in respect of staff and own self-development, including assisting the Head of Department in relation to performance management of others within the department and appraisals
- To communicate the needs of the partnership especially to all members of the staff within an area of responsibility delegated to an associate.
- To undertake any specified management responsibility.
- To be familiar with and comply with the requirements of the firm’s Office Procedures Manual and Lexcel procedures.
- To develop leadership skills and the ability to optimise team performance.
- To assist in the development of new products and service opportunities.
- To record time on the firm’s designated systems spent on client matters and non-client matters to the performance standards set
Fee-earning Duties:
- To ensure the confidentiality and security of all firm and client documentation and information.
- To maintain high standards in the processing of client work, both in respect of professional standards and client care.
- To maintain good professional working relationships with external institutions and organisations.
- To adhere to agreed practice procedure as determined from time to time, especially as related to Quality Standards.
- To manage and maintain client’s files in good order
- To achieve agreed financial targets, both in respect of fee income and the recording of chargeable hours including helping Credit Control
- To provide advice and guidance and thorough supervision to other subordinate fee-earners and support staff within an area of responsibility delegated to the associate.
- Through training and other means, to keep fully up to date with relevant legislation and practice.
- To monitor and help develop systems and procedures within the partner’s work area, including the use of technology.
Special Duties:

- To work with the Head of the Department to develop and implement a strategy for the Department.
- To act as mentor to, supervisor, supporter, promoter of the Department and the individuals within it.
Skills and qualifications:
- Admission to the Solicitors Roll.
- Team building and people management skills.
- Ability to attract work for the firm and build upon existing connections.
- Ability to mentor, support and encourage other members of the department in the process of client matters
- A pleasant but assertive manner in dealing with colleagues and clients, tact, and resilience.
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
Hour of work:
Such days and hours as specified in the Offer letter each week. The commitment of an Associate is beyond that expected of other employees. Such commitment is not limited to office hours. An Associate is expected to devote such hours as are required to carry out the full role of an Associate including the duties summarised in this document.
